"Preview Night" a HUGE Success.

Thank you to everyone who attended our "Preview Night" last evening. The attendance was the best I have seen in my eight years being involved in the NHS Band program. It was exciting to see the students perform. Cottrell and his staff have done a great job over the past two weeks of band camp. For those of you who are new to our band program, the planning and thought process for this years program, began over 6 months ago.It is not something that "just happens" over a 2 week period. Cottrell, please accept our thanks and congratulations for a job well done.

I want to give a special thanks to the George family. Willie, Shelby and Megan were life savers. They prepared the hot dogs while Martha and Liz were holding the band booster meeting down in the band room. The George's were a huge help and I personally want to say THANKS for their dedication to the NHS Band program.

Looking ahead to next weekend. As most of you know, we have our first UNC football game next Saturday. It is your first opportunity to begin earning your fair share through UNC Concessions. Our workers probably need to be at the concession stand by 3:15 PM. If this time changes, I will make you aware of it by Friday the 29th. The gates open @ 4 PM. We have to be in place and ready to rock by that time. It takes a little time to have a small meeting to assign stations and discuss things in general. If you are new to UNC Concessions, please send me an e-mail to legacymillwork@mindspring.com with your phone # and I will give you a call toward the end of the week to answer all questions that you may have regarding the logistics of parking and were to enter the stadium. I will be handing out instructions to the students at the ballgame Friday night as well. Feel free to contact me @ 244-1949 (Cell Phone) if you have questions.

I am excited about the next few months. We will get to see many wonderful bands perform and you will make new friends if you are a new to the NHS family. We will have a lot of fun over the next few months. Take time to enjoy.

Enjoy the photos and once again, thanks to all who work so hard to make the NHS Marching Band program a huge success. Remember, it's all about the kids!!

Sincerely,
Jerry Richardson

NORTHWOOD MARCHING CHARGERS UPDATE

Our Marching Charger Band will enter its 2nd and final week of band camp on Monday Aug. 18th. I haven't personally heard or seen the band (due to being threatened by my freshman daughter) however, I have "heard through the grapevine" that they are sounding extremely well. I have been told this from two different sources. It is exciting.

I am looking forward to our Friday night preview and band picnic. To make things even more exciting, I have confirmation from the George family and from Chris Hooft that they will be willing to assist in working the serving tables so our band parents won't miss the preview. Hats off to our alumni parents who continue to support our band program!!

To the students. I know you are working hard and it seems that camp and practice last forever. But I promise you that when you hit the field for the 1st time and you hear Mr. C and your parents tell you how proud they are of you, it will be worth every minute of it. The season will fly by so fast, you will wonder where it went. Take time to soak it up and enjoy!

As you all know, UNC home football season begins on Saturday Aug. 30th. Many of you have signed up to work. If you haven't, please do so ASAP. I will be assigning stands to the work groups soon. If you have a friend or someone who you "must" work with, please drop me an e-mail ASAP @ legacymillwork@mindspring.com and give me the information. I won't promise that I can work out every request, but I do promise to do my best. The game time for the UNC game on Aug. 30th is 6 PM. This will require our workers to be at Kenan Stadium around 3 PM. Gates will open at 4 PM. We have to be in position and ready to rock by 3:45 pm. I will be passing out more details before the 30th.

If anyone has information that they wish to post to the blog, please forward it to me at my e-mail address.

Go MARCHING CHARGERS!!!!

NORTHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING CHARGERS TO BEGIN BAND CAMP

Greetings to everyone!!!. I am excited to begin this years blog covering our wonderful "Marching Charger Band"! I want to begin by welcoming our "Freshman" class and their parents. Our "Marching Charger" group will become an extended part of your family. Take it from someone who has experienced it, you will make friends for a lifetime through the events of our marching band.

Thank you to all the parents, students and Mr. C for the many hours of volunteering that it takes to raise funds to make our band what it is. We have fun, we see results and most of all we see our young adults mature over the marching band season. Everyone will have memories that will last for a lifetime.

Please join me by welcoming all the newcomers to our blog. There will be weekly post and photos which will allow you to keep up with current events with our band at your leisure. I welcome comments and encourage each of you to pass information to me so that I may include it in our blog.

BEGINNING TOMORROW- AUG. 11TH, OUR 2008 MARCHING CHARGER SEASON OPENS WITH "BAND CAMP". LET THE SEASON BEGIN!!

Much more to follow!
