This seasonal blog shares information & photos about the Marching Charger Band of Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC. Occasionaly we will share information unrelated to Marching Band, but it will always be something associated with the instrumental music programs at Northwood High School. Thank you to all of our students, alumni, parents and of course our amazing Band Director, Mr. Eugene Cottrell, for the many wonderful years of memories that we are able to share through this blog.

NHS Marching Chargers has "Historical" Performance at Western Alamance
Saturday, Oct. 16th, 2010 was a "record setting" day as the Northwood Marching Chargers "raised the bar" for future Marching Charger marching band members.
The Chargers visit to Elon, NC and was rewarded with the "best to date" scores from the competition judges. Not just for this season, but including every year in the 12 year history of Mr. Cottrell's reign at NHS.
The day began with an early morning practice at Northwood. The students were working with minimal sleep. The evening before, the band and most of the parents, had witnessed one of the greatest "victories" ever by the Northwood Charger football team. The Chargers defeated the "undefeated" Carrboro football team in double overtime. The band, for the 2nd week in a row", didn't get to bed on Friday night before mid-night.
Congratulations to the "NHS Charger Football Team" on a great "homecoming victory".
Now, back to the historical day in Elon. The Marching Chargers earned 1st Place in every caption, 1st Place in the 1-A / 1-AA catagory and "Band of the Day" in Class 1-A / 2-AA catagory. In addition, they continued their string of "Superior"ratings. Actual score from the judges, was a "91". The highest ever by a Marching Charger Band.
Once the Marching Chargers loaded up their "brass" and "plastic" and headed back to Pittsboro, the competition continued in Elon with the larger schools competing against each other. When the dust settled and the final awards were handed out, it was determined that the Marching Chargers would be awarded a 3rd Place Trophy in overall competition for the day, beating out such schools as "Apex and Southview". Congratulations to the Marching Charger Band and Mr. Cottrell. It was a wonderful Autumn Saturday for the Marching Chargers.
