NHS Marching Chargers Takes 1st Place in 3-A Class in Danville

The Marching Chargers kicked off their competition season in Danville, Va. on Saturday by placing 1st in the 3-A Class in the Dixie Classic at George Washington High School.  Mr. Cottrell had the following comments regarding the Marching Charger performance.

I was very thankful that we got the chance to march due to the weather that could have been a problem. The students needed the chance to show what they have been working on so diligently over the past couple of weeks. I felt that musically speaking they were right where we need to be at this stage in the game and that the excellent rating fit the performance that they gave on Saturday evening. We do have some issues in our feet that need to be addressed but all in all I am happy with their showing! I felt that the guard and percussion had a strong run on Saturday and especially the guard has shown wonderful resolve with all of the drill issues that have occurred in this particular show.

I would like to thank all of the band parents who once again make competitions like this possible for the kids. You truly were the best pit crew of the day!!!

Congratulations to Mr. Cottrell and his staff and of course, the students, for putting on a great show.

We would also like to give a special congratulations to Victoria Castor and the "Pit Crew" for winning the award for "Best Pit Crew" at the event. They beat out 16 other bands to bring this award home. Great job "Pit".

Please plan on attending the next competition to be held on Oct. 9TH at Bluestone High School located in Skipwith, Va.
