A "GREAT" LEADER!!

I have to say, Eugene Cottrell deserves more than any of us band boosters and his students can give him.

No one, other than him and his family, knows the number of hours he dedicates to his music program @ Northwood. His is one of a kind and more dedicated than any "Director" anywhere.

The few items on this page are especially for his family. I want then to share in our memories with Mr. C. The weekends that he gives up in the summer and fall will never be recovered, but they can be remembered. We love you Cottrell!! Thank you Leslie and girls for sharing your husband and dad with our group!! It means a lot to us!!

MARCHING CHARGERS DECEND ON MYRTLE BEACH, SC

THE MARCHING CHARGERS ARRIVED AT MYRTLE BEACH, SC AROUND 6 PM ON FRIDAY NIGHT. THE TRIP WAS UNEVENTFUL, (A GOOD THING) AND THE KIDS WERE READY TO STRETCH THEIR LEGS. THE NEXT 4 HOURS WERE SPENT AT "BROADWAY AT THE BEACH". OTHER THAN HAVING "STICKER SHOCK" WITH THE FOOD PRICES, THINGS WERE PERFECT. ALL HAD A GREAT TIME FOR THE EVENING.

NEXT WAS HEAD COUNT AND CHECK IN AT THE HOTEL. THEY WERE IN THEIR ROOM AND LIGHTS (CLOSE TO OUT) BY 11 PM.

SATURDAY MORNING ARRIVED "EARLY" FOR MOST. ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO HAD TO MONITOR THE HALLS DURING THE NIGHT. THANKS TO THOSE BRAVE PARENTS WILLING TO SACRIFICE THEIR SLEEP TO MAKE SURE OUR KIDS STAYED HORIZONTAL DURING THE NIGHT. THANKS TO YOU PARENTS FOR KEEPING YOUR EYES OPEN.

OFF TO THE PRACTICE FIELD.

The kids practiced very hard during the morning session. Cottrell was on his "A" game in teaching them the details over and over. I am sure it will pay off later in the day.

Now, "competition time". The Marching Chargers took to the field @ 5:45 PM. Here in Myrtle Beach, our Marching Chargers were in Class AAA, rather than AA. This forced us to compete against much larger schools than Northwood. However, the Marching Chargers stepped up to the challenge. They looked great! Everyone who attended last weeks event in Danville, saw a different band perform here in Myrtle Beach. At the end of the night, when the awards were handed out, our thoughts proved to be correct. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHARGERS FOR SCORING AN 89.5 "SUPERIOR" RATING!! THEY FINISHED 2ND IN CLASS "AAA". OUR HORN LINE WAS AWARDED 1ST PLACE IN CLASS "AAA"!

Mr. Cottrell stated the following" I am most proud about how each band member improved individually". He said " They scored well and should be proud of themselves!

We have great memories of Myrtle Beach!! The attached photos will provide some examples of the great time we had.

Our next competition will be in 3 weeks!!! I know our Marching Chargers will continue to improve! Don't miss out on the next event!

Northwood Marching Chargers at UNC Concessions 9 15 07

Thanks to our great volunteers and the hungry fans, Northwood Marching Chargers had a very successful day @ the UNC vs UVA Football game.

I want to shout out a special "Thank you" to each and every student and parent who worked. Everyone seemed to have a great time and enjoyed the day.

It is hard work, but the reward is worth it. If we continue the trend that we have had over the past two games, Northwood Band will have a very successful fund raising season.

Thank you again to all who have worked the 1st two games @ UNC.

Northwood Marching Chargers at Chatham County Fair 9-11-2007

Our Northwood Marching Charger Band performed at the opening ceremonies of the Chatham County Fair on Tuesday night Sept. 11th, 2007.

As the crowd reflected back on this night 6 years ago, many memories resurfaced. Most of our students were only in their early elementary or middle school years. Our freshman class was in the 3rd grade. I am sure the memories were different to each age group represented. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who suffered loss on this day in 2001. In addition, we salute those who have served our country in many ways since that date. Many have paid the ultimate price.

Northwood students were honored to play the patriotic music before the attendees.

We would like to say "Thank You" to all of those who attended.

MARCHING CHARGERS 1st Home Football Game 2007

Our Marching Charger Band took to the field Friday night for the 1st time in our 2007 Season. The band and color guard performed the 2007 Program " American Anthems" with excitement and pride. The event was well attended by parents and fans alike. The hard work that Mr. Cottrell and our students have put in over the last few weeks were evident during the program. If you missed the opportunity to see last evenings event, you will have a chance to view the Band and Color Guard on Tuesday night Sept. 11th at the opening ceremonies of the Chatham County Fair. They will also perform Sept. 21st at our next home football game when Northwood host Carrboro. Wear your "Stars and Strips" and attend one of these events. Jerry Richardson

UNC vs James Madison

Greetings to Students & Band Parents!!
A Big THANK YOU!! all students and parents who worked Saturday's UNC / James Madison football game. We had plenty of help and everyone worked really hard. We had great sales in both stands!!
I have sent fair share info to Greg for him to post to each students account.

I hope everyone enjoyed the event even though it was hard work. It is fun to get to know the parents and students in an atmosphere away from school. We have such GREAT students and parents. That is why I am doing what I do.

Our next opportunity is on Saturday Sept. 15th when UNC takes on Virginia @ 12:00 noon. Please note that there is a time change from my original posting. The game is earlier in the day than originally stated. Regular workers will need to be in the concession stands by 9:30 AM on Saturday morning. If you want to work this game, please send me an e-mail to legacymillwork@mindspring.com or sign up @ school. You will also have the opportunity to sign up at the football game on Friday night @ Northwood.

Once again, thank you to all who volunteer and work so hard.
